I enrolled in a course 'Diploma in Marketing' and tonight is the first night I attended the class. I studied again for the course sounds interesting and it's a join course by
CIM and
HKU.
I was a bit late (7:10pm) and wow! The lecture room was already full! Feel so embarrassed to sit at the front row......
The lecturer is fine and humorous so the 3 hr lecture was a piece of cake. The most interesting part came when we had to form a group. When we introduced our jobs, my group members were surprised that I am a teacher. All of them, let me remind you again, stared at me and said, 'You don't look like a teacher! You look like an office lady!'
Funny enough, we form a set of complicated perception in predicting occupations. I asked them why I didn't look like a teacher in order to have some insights about this perception. My group members simply couldn't give me any particular reasons. A young man said, 'Don't all teachers wear spectacles?' Maybe I should ask him more about it next time.
I guess people who work in a profession share some characters. They project their characters into their appearence. As the young man suggested, teachers wear spectacles. Maybe he thought that teachers put knowledge in front of the appearence. We teachers don't mind to be seen with the bookworm image. Ha! Such a funny perception!
As a representative of the teaching profession, let me update all your readers' perception towards teachers.
1. We teachers do pay a lot of time/effort/money in grooming. You may not see it for we go to the bus stop/MTR station at 6 sth in the morning, while you guys are still flipping happily in your bed.
2. Nearly all my colleagues wear contact lens. I am the only one who don't wear them :P
